The Midnight Mountain Marathon – 7th June 2025
Car Parking
Parking is at the Mart at the village end of Station Rd, Talybont (included in entry).
Walk to HQ after parking.
Please do not park in or around the hall.

Disclaimer
All participants must bring along a completed and signed disclaimer.
Registration
Held in the hall. All participants must register before the race.
You will receive:
- Race number (with chip, must be on the front)
- Course map
Event Timing
Chip timing is done via a wristband. There are dibber points along the course which you will need to press your wristband against. This will be demonstrated in the race briefing.
Start / Finish
Look for Howling Events flags/gantry. Race starts with a foghorn.
Courses
Mixture of trail and mountain paths with some road sections.
Course will be marked with yellow signs and white flags.
All runners will receive a printed map.
Please be respectful near homes, especially at night.
Aid Stations
- Full Marathon: Approx. miles 7.5 & 19
- Half Marathon: One station at approx. mile 7
Items: Water* , electrolyte/gels, coke, bananas, jelly babies, cake
You may drop your own nutrition at registration.
If retiring: Inform checkpoint staff—do not leave without telling someone.
*Due to the number of entrants and a care for the environment, Howling Events are trying to do our bit by cutting down on waste. Howling Events will NOT be supplying any plastic cups at the aid stations, so no cup means no drink. By having a collapsable cup ensures that you can have refreshments at the aid stations.
Medical Support
Medics at miles 7.5, Pen y Fan summit, mile 19, and HQ.
- Minor injury: Can walk, needs attention (e.g., cut or sprain).
- Major injury: Cannot walk (e.g., broken leg, heart attack).
Emergency procedure:
- Apply first aid
- Inform nearest marshal
Sweeper crew will follow the last runners.
Weather
Mountain weather can change quickly. Kit is essential.
Forecast available at registration.
Race may be canceled or rerouted for safety (e.g., thick fog, high winds).
Half Marathon Runners
Turnaround at waterfall (~7 miles).
Do not miss it or you’ll be on the full route.
Close the gate on your return.
Bergen Runners
- Weight: 35lbs (men), 25lbs (women)
- Must be weighed before and after race
- Use any safe items for weight
- Train with your race pack
Compulsory Kit
All runners must carry the following kit:
- Issued map
- Waterproof top
- Min. 400ml of water/drink
- ICE details on back of race number
- Chocolate bar or similar snack
- Fully charged mobile (HQ number programmed)
The following additonal list is mandatory for the full marathon:
- Whistle
- Compass
- Long trousers/tights
- Hat and gloves
- Head torch + spare batteries
- Lightweight warm layer
- High-vis vest (can be on pack – £3 here)
- Basic blister kit
- Collapsible cup (optional but recommended)

Cut-off
If you reach mile 11 after 8:30pm, you will be guided onto a slightly shortened route.
If you reach mile 19 after 10:45pm, you will be escorted to finish.
If you reach the end after midnight, you will not have reached the gold standard race time (but you’ll still get a medal).
Finish Line
Hot drinks and soup at the hall.
Medals for all finishers.
